A 22-year-old Russian national was arrested after he went viral on TikTok for a post in which he threatened to spread HIV in the Philippines. In the viral video, he can be seen walking through Bonifacio Global City and repeating his threat.
The Bureau of Immigration-Fugitive Search Unit (BI-FSU) immediately launched an operation to arrest the foreigner. According to BI-FSU chief Rendel Sy, they found the Russian in a condominium in Bgy. Sto. Cristo, Quezon City at around 3:40 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21.
Based on the investigation, the Russian arrived in the Philippines on January 15. He underwent booking and documentation procedures before being taken to the Bureau of Immigration Warden's Facility. The process is a standard step before possible deportation.
The BI checks whether the foreigner has criminal records. If there is no criminal record, they will prepare the necessary documents for his deportation back to his country.
This incident has drawn public attention, especially on social media, due to the serious threat of the spread of HIV. Authorities are also reminding the public to be cautious of online content and to report suspicious posts immediately.
