Search and rescue operations at the Binaliw Landfill in Cebu City ended on Sunday after the recovery of the last missing person affected by the landslide on January 8, 2026.
According to Cebu City Councilor Dave Tumulak, chairman of the city's disaster response committee, the last body was found early Sunday morning, bringing the death toll in the tragedy to 36.
All those previously reported missing have been found, while 14 of them are currently being treated in hospital and four have returned.
On Friday, the city held a day of mourning for the victims and declared a state of calamity earlier this week.
The declaration of a state of calamity gives the city government access to emergency funds, which will be used for urgent waste management needs and other related community assistance.
