MANILA — A senior citizen was rushed to the hospital after a piece of iron from a plantbox was stuck under his chin and exited his mouth on January 13, past 9 a.m. in Barangay San Agustin, Quezon City.
According to the report, the 65-year-old woman was picking malunggay in front of her neighbor's house on Mango Street, Nova Homes Subdivision, when she dizzy and slipped off the edge of the plantbox. The Quezon City Fire District (QCFD) Special Rescue Force immediately responded.
“We received a call from the Novaliches Fire Sub-Station about an old woman who was stabbed in a plantbox… when we arrived, we first stabilized the situation and the injury to prevent it from getting worse,” explained SF02 Richard Andrew Roces, team leader of the QCFD Special Rescue Force. The rescue operation lasted for about 30 minutes.
He added, “The only challenge is that he was stuck in the metal so we can't just move him. We're just taking it slow until we can safely remove him.” The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital and underwent surgery to remove the metal. Fortunately, vital organs such as the carotid artery and trachea were not hit.
The victim is currently recovering in the hospital. Roces reminded that if you are ever stuck in the same situation, do not touch the patient immediately and call the authorities for a safe rescue. “Let's just stabilize him and wait for the right way to remove him safely,” he added.
