Typhoon Ada has slightly weakened as it continues to move northeastward over the waters northeast of Catanduanes, according to PAGASA. Despite this, government agencies remain cautious due to the continued impact of severe weather in some parts of the country.
The NDRRMC is currently verifying reports of two fatalities following a landfall in Barangay Bariis, Matnog, Sorsogon on Saturday night. Coordination with local authorities is ongoing to confirm details and ensure immediate assistance to affected families.
The center of the storm was last spotted more than 200 kilometers from Catanduanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 80 kph. As a result, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 remains in effect in some areas of the Bicol Region where minor damage is possible.
PAGASA also warned that Ada's circulation is strengthening the northeast monsoon, which will bring strong gusts of wind and rough seas over Northern Luzon, Bicol, and Eastern Visayas. Coastal and mountain communities are advised to remain alert.
According to the report, thousands of families have been affected, with pre-emptive evacuations and reports of flooding in some areas. Ada is expected to remain a typhoon before weakening to a tropical depression, as authorities continue to monitor any changes in its movement and strength.
