Tondo, Manila — Two tricycle drivers were killed after their dispute ended in shooting and stabbing at Velasquez Street Corner Jacinto Street, Barangay 96, Tondo, Wednesday night, January 7.
According to police investigation, around 7:00 p.m., Marlon, 21, was driving his tricycle when he encountered two suspects, Edmond and Eugene, both tricycle drivers. The suspects allegedly threatened and cursed at him, causing him to get off the tricycle and a fight broke out.
“There was a shooting. They had an argument earlier this morning,” said Bejamin Cabral, Kagawad of Barangay 96. According to Mary Joy Nicolas, Marlon's former partner, she and the suspect were arguing over the buena mano on the tricycle. The suspects' cousin also said that three people were involved in the incident.
Later, Edmond beat Marlon with a hat, and Eugene shot him. Police arrived at the scene and tried to break up the fight, but Eugene pointed his gun at the responding police, forcing them to return fire, hitting Edmond. Eugene escaped with the gun used.
The victim and the injured suspect were immediately taken to the hospital. Marlon was declared dead-on-arrival due to a gunshot wound to the chest and a cut on the back of his neck. Edmond, meanwhile, died at the hospital after being shot in the stomach by a police officer. The responding police officer is now in the custody of the Homicide Section of the Manila Police District while the investigation continues.
