Popular actor Michael B. Jordan is currently in talks to play the role of Ricardo “Rico” Tubbs in Universal Pictures' upcoming Miami Vice reboot. The film will be helmed by Joseph Kosinski, the director of Top Gun: Maverick, and is set to be released on August 6, 2027.
Jordan is known for his intense performances in the Creed series and the film Sinners. If the project goes ahead, he will be the third actor to play Tubbs, following Philip Michael Thomas in the 1984 TV series and Jamie Foxx in the 2006 version.
Filming is set to begin next year. The script was written by Dan Gilroy and Eric Warren Singer, both of whom are known for making films full of tension and action. The story will revolve around the glitz and corruption of Miami in the mid-1980s.
According to the report, Jordan's participation will bring more intense character and emotion to the film—a combination of his signature intensity and high-stakes action that audiences are sure to love.
No actor has been confirmed yet to play Sonny Crockett, but it is expected to be announced soon. The film has a budget of approximately ₱9.8 billion, and is expected to be one of the biggest action films of 2027.
