
The National Bureau of Investigation – Criminal Intelligence Division (NBI-CRID) has arrested a Chinese national in Makati City after he was caught selling counterfeit money online.
According to the NBI, they received information about a Chinese man named “Wang Ye” who is offering fake ₱1,000 bills on social media. He is allegedly selling 100 pieces of the old version of ₱1,000 for ₱20,000, and 100 pieces of the new version for ₱33,000.
NBI agents conducted an entrapment operation and met with the suspect at a mall in Makati City. He was caught on October 21 after handing over the marked money. NBI agents were joined by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) in the operation.
The suspect was identified as Deng Lin, and was immediately brought to the NBI office for booking procedures.
Lin will be charged for violating Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code or Illegal Possession and Use of False Treasury or Bank Notes, as well as Republic Act No. 10175 or Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012.
