The rock world is mourning the passing of Ace Frehley, original lead guitarist and co-founder of the legendary band KISS, at the age of 74. He was known as “Spaceman” for his galactic makeup and pyrotechnic guitar solos. He passed away on October 16 in New Jersey, surrounded by his family.
Frehley was a key part of KISS's success in the 1970s. His unique style was heard in popular songs such as “Rock and Roll All Nite” and “Detroit Rock City.” He also popularized the smoke and rocket effects guitars that became a trademark of KISS concerts.
His death came after suffering a brain bleed due to a fall, which caused his health to rapidly decline and the cancellation of tour dates in 2025.
Former bandmates Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons issued statements, saying Ace was an irreplaceable rock soldier and will remain a big part of the KISS legacy. He was the first member of the original four to pass away, leaving an inspiration to many guitarists around the world.
