A tricycle driver was arrested after he trampled on a Grade 6 student in Barangay Sto. Cristo, Tarlac City on Tuesday morning.
According to a report by the Tarlac City Police, the student was walking with two friends when the suspect suddenly followed him and punched him in the head. CCTV footage showed the boy almost falling before the driver fled.
Police tracked down the suspect after recognizing the body number of the tricycle. Investigation revealed that the vehicle belonged to the suspect's father and was only borrowed by him on the day of the incident. According to the family, the driver allegedly has mental health problems.
The student was immediately taken to the hospital for a check-up and was given counseling support from the local government. Police said they would patrol the area around schools to prevent such incidents.
The suspect is currently in custody and is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 7610 or Special Protection of Children Against Abuse.
