The Marikina City government has announced a 2-day health break from October 13 to October 14. This is due to the increase in cases of flu and flu-like illness in schools based on the recommendation of the city health office.
According to the LGU statement, this step is a preemptive measure to protect the health and well-being of students, teachers, and school staff. It also aims to prevent the spread of the disease and give everyone time to rest.
During the health break, extensive cleaning and disinfection will be conducted in schools. Those who are sick are also advised to stay home, rest, drink plenty of water, and immediately consult a doctor if they experience any symptoms.
On October 10, several universities in Metro Manila suspended classes or switched to online learning also due to a sudden increase in cases of flu-like symptoms.
