Road reblocking is a frequent complaint of motorists, especially motorcycle riders. It has been seen many times that well-maintained roads are being blocked by DPWH or contractors even though there is no damage.
Often, there is a lack of safety barriers and warning signs, making it dangerous for motorists. As a result, many accidents are associated with these projects.
Amidst the issues of multi-trillion peso flood control projects with allegations of corruption, many suspect that the repeated road reblocking is also a way of misusing funds.
That's why Sec. Vince Dizon has decided to suspend all road reblocking projects indefinitely. He said, “Why tear down a good road just to rebuild it? We know, most of the time, it's just for profit.”
Sec. Dizon will issue a new Department Order that will mandate clear justification for each project and greater transparency so that taxpayers can see where their money is going.
