The United States is helping Ukraine carry out long-range strikes against Russian energy facilities. The aim is to weaken Moscow's economy and force President Vladimir Putin to negotiate a possible agreement.
US intelligence is providing assistance with route planning, altitude, timing, and mission decisions to help Ukraine's long-range drones evade Russian defenses. As a result, vital oil refineries and energy sites far from the front lines are being hit.
According to officials, Ukraine is selecting targets while US intelligence provides information about the vulnerabilities of facilities. This also includes a request from the US to NATO allies to provide similar support.
Recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said that he and US President Donald Trump discussed air defense and protection of Ukraine's energy system. He added that there were "good options and solid ideas" being discussed to further strengthen their country's defenses.
