The Office of the Vice President (OVP) said there was no explanation as to why Col. Raymund Dante Lachica was removed as chief of the AFP Security and Protection Group, the unit that guards Vice President Sara Duterte.
According to the OVP, they only learned about Lachica's relief order on October 6, 2025. No message or reason was given to the vice president's office.
The OVP thanked Lachica for his service, loyalty, and professionalism. It was also emphasized that they achieved more than their targets because of the officer's support.
The AFP has confirmed that Lachica has been returned to the Philippine Army after having a case against him in the Office of the Ombudsman. Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro assured that VP Sara Duterte still has security.
In 2022, Duterte reportedly approved the transfer of ₱125 million confidential funds to Lachica, according to an OVP official.
