The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and Philippine Tennis Association (Philta) are in talks to host the first WTA 125 Manila Open in the country from January 26 to February 1, 2026.
According to PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio, the tournament is more than just a competition. Its goal is to give Filipino athletes the opportunity to compete against world-class players, inspire the youth, and put the Philippines on the global tennis map.
The WTA 125 requires three premium courts as a minimum requirement. At the same time, the PSC will also prepare the Rizal Memorial courts for the public and build the Philippine Tennis Center in New Clark City.
In addition, the ITF J30 Tournament will also be held in the country from November to December 7, 2025 for young players aged 13 to 18 from various parts of Asia.
The WTA 125 series is important because it is where many champions start before moving up to the higher levels of the WTA Tour.
