The MC Taxi Law has been awaited for 6 years but has still not been passed. Since the launch of the Pilot Study, nearly 70,000 riders who rely on it for their livelihood remain in limbo. If the government ends the program, thousands of families will lose their income.
According to Romeo Maglunsod, Chairman of the Motorcycle Community Philippines, in four congressional sessions, MC Taxi has still not been legislated. As time goes by, more and more previously legitimate riders are forced to habal-habal, due to the lack of clear regulations.
He added that their original request to lawmakers was simple—to eliminate illegal operations. But because there is still no permanent law, almost the entire MC Taxi sector is becoming “illegal.” Because of this, compliance with due process is also decreasing.
The group emphasizes that the main goal is safety of riders and passengers. That is why they call for the immediate passage of the MC Taxi Law to ensure everyone's protection.
