A construction worker from Tondo, Manila died after being shot in the neck during an anti-corruption protest on September 21 in Mendiola.
According to forensic pathologist Raquel Fortun, the medical certificate stated that Eric Saber, 35 years old, died from a perforating gunshot wound to the neck which also caused spinal cord injury.
The Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) group said Saber was shot by police amid the violent dispersal of protesters. But police insisted that no shooting took place.
According to Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño, one person was killed in the incident—a 15-year-old student who was stabbed and not shot. “There was no shooting connected to the protest,” he added.
KMU has stated that they will fight for justice for Saber, who was buried yesterday at the Manila North Cemetery.
