Pinay tennis star Alex Eala showed style again in China after defeating Japan bet Mei Yamaguchi, 6-0, 6-3, to enter the Jingshan Open quarterfinals.
The match was moved to an indoor court due to rain, which worked in Eala's favor. In the faster conditions, she quickly took control of the game and started with a 5-0 lead, before closing the first set 6-0.
Yamaguchi had a chance to recover in the second set and scored up to 4-3, but Eala held firm in the baseline rally and eventually closed out the match 6-3.
Successive wins over Aliona Falei and Yamaguchi brought Eala to the quarterfinals, where she will face veteran Jia-Jing Lu of China, 35 years old and with a record of 28 wins and 22 losses this year.
Lu is currently ranked No. 349 on the WTA, and reached a career-high rank of No. 162 in 2019. This is a big match for Eala as she continues to showcase her skills on the international stage.
