The Suzuki Fronx is a new sub-compact SUV that is full of driving fun. Three years after the Vitara disappeared, Suzuki has re-entered the small crossover market. The Fronx has a mild-hybrid system and is the first model in the segment to feature Suzuki Safety Support or advanced driver assist features.
The look is fresh and sporty. It has a Euro-inspired front face, coupe-like rear design, and claw-like DRL that resembles a Peugeot. At the back, the faux diffuser and sporty tail lights stand out, but the cargo loading is quite high so it can be a hassle when carrying heavy items.
Inside, the features are modern and complete. With two-tone burgundy and black design, large touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, automatic climate control, and wireless charger. Plus points are also the 360-camera that checks the surroundings during start-up and the heads-up display that provides clear information.
The performance is solid. The cabin is quiet, the seats are comfortable, and the steering is responsive. The suspension is soft on bumps but stable on curves. Even at high speeds on zigzags, the ride is smooth and the gearshifts don't get jittery. There's Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Braking, and Lane Keeping Assist that work well for added safety.
In terms of gas mileage, it's also impressive. According to tests, it can reach 27.98 km/L, while in real-world driving it's 20.05 km/L. If converted to the gasoline price of ₱65/L, you'll save a lot compared to other SUVs.
The Suzuki Fronx is more engaging and fun to drive than the old Vitara. It's like a bigger Swift—fun, economical, and great value. If priced competitively, it could rival the popularity of the Jimny and S-Presso in the Philippines.
