TV host Maine Mendoza has once again defended her husband Arjo Atayde, after he was implicated in the issue of alleged corruption in flood control projects. Arjo, a representative of Quezon City 1st District, was pointed out by the contractors but he vehemently denied it.
In his social media statement, Maine clarified that their lifestyle is not based on people's tax money. According to him, everything they have is the result of their work and savings over many years. He added, “We pay the right taxes and we respect that system.”
Maine emphasized that they don't steal people's money and they don't live off the government. According to her, if her husband did something wrong, she would never defend him. “You can accuse him of something else, but not of theft,” she said.
Maine admitted that the criticisms are painful and stressful, especially since many are quick to judgment. But she believes that the truth will come out and they will be able to recover from the false accusations. She also added that Arjo will take legal steps to clear his name.
Maine further stated that like other citizens, they are also angry with politicians who steal and torture people. But he insisted, “What you are teaching is wrong. We are not like that. God knows the truth, and our hands are clean.”
