The DSWD's Walang Gutom Program (WGP) has helped 300,000 families eat better. According to a March 2025 survey, the number of hungry beneficiaries decreased by 7.2%. The largest decrease was in BARMM-Plus, where hunger decreased by 17.4%.
Secretary Rex Gatchalian said that the program is planned to be expanded to reach 600,000 families this second half of the year. From October 2024 to March 2025, hunger will continue to decrease in the regions covered by the program.
Each family under the WGP receives ₱3,000 food credits per month using an Electronic Benefit Transfer card, which can be purchased at partner stores. This includes 639 women-led enterprises from over 1,000 accredited retailers.
Many beneficiaries from Tondo, Manila shared their stories. One of them, Edwin Jimeno, said that his family used to eat only pag and sometimes only twice a day. Now, the program has brought great relief.
The goal of Walang Gutom 2027 is to provide enough food to 750,000 food-poor families by 2027. Aside from aid, families are also taught how to prepare nutritious and affordable meals.
