The workers called on President Marcos not only to implement a lifestyle check on government officials, but also to advance the anti-dynasty law to completely eradicate corruption.
According to Sonny Matula, president of the Federation of Free Workers (FFW), the lifestyle check will help but it is only a temporary solution if the dominance of political dynasties continues.
“Lifestyle checks are good, but they are not enough. Political dynasties are the root of corruption because government positions are like family businesses,” said Matula. He added that if the problem is to be truly curbed, it is necessary to end dynasties through clear legislation.
Matula further emphasized that political clans continue to control Congress and local governments while poverty, inequality, and corruption persist.
At the same time, various labor groups have called for the establishment of an independent commission to investigate corruption, especially in projects such as infrastructure and flood control that cost billions of pesos.
