6 students were injured after a stage roof collapsed at Peñaranda Park, Legazpi City around 6 p.m., August 30. It happened to be raining heavily while about 40 students from Bicol College were rehearsing.
According to P/Lt. Col. Domingo Tapel Jr., chief of the Legazpi City Police, “Due to the heavy rain since 4 p.m., the roof filled with water and gave way. That's why the canopy fell on the students.”
Most of the students were safe, but one student is still complaining of a severe headache. Parents took their children's belongings because they were still traumatized by the incident.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing. The stage was recently built along with renovations to the entire plaza, which cost approximately ₱5 million.
