Quezon City experienced flash flooding after 141 millimeters of rain fell on August 30. This is the equivalent of five days of rain falling in just one hour.
According to PAGASA data, most of the rain fell from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Experts explained that the intensity of the rain was higher than the normal torrential rain which is usually 30mm/hr to 60mm/hr.
The cost of rainwater rose to ₱141,000 if the 141mm rainfall is converted into pesos per millimeter. The weight and volume of the rain could not be handled by the city's drainage system, causing flooding in 36 barangays in Districts 1, 3 and 4.
Rainfall reached 121mm in one hour, higher than the 90mm/hr recorded during typhoon Ondoy. As a result, some roads were submerged and even areas that are not normally flooded were affected.
According to the local government, the excessive amount of rainwater in a short time caused severe problems, affecting many residents.
