Nineteen criminology students in Kidapawan suffered skin burns after an alleged hazing on August 23, 2025. The incident occurred at a public school in Barangay Kalaisan where nearly 100 students underwent reception rites before their internship.
According to the police, there were seven stations of physical activities such as jumping jacks and push-ups. But some senior students secretly hid chemicals and used them on the interns. They were allegedly sprayed with a mixture of battery solution, vinegar, and chili, which caused burns.
The dean of the college, Dr. Rolando Poblador, immediately stopped the activity upon learning of the incident and ensured that the victims were given first aid. The students were also advised to undergo a medical check-up to properly assess their condition.
The 5 suspects who were former classmates of the interns have been identified. They may face charges under the Anti-Hazing Law. They are also looking into whether the school lacked oversight of the activity.
Poblador has already met with the parents of the victims and promised that such an incident will not happen again. Meanwhile, the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) is ready to assist the families and conduct its own investigation.
