The new motocross centre has been built in Powys, Wales after a long battle over planning permission. It will be built at Rhydblawd Farm and is an idea that began 10 years ago by owner Nightfly Limited and director Phil Wilding.
Up to ₱105 million (from £1.5 million) will be invested in the area and will create up to 13 jobs. The project will include seven holiday log cabins, an off-road riding area focused on electric bikes, and environmental measures such as tree planting and new wildlife habitat.
Wilding said it was a big win for business and Powys. It would bring jobs, investment and new visitors while protecting the environment. He added that the project had been delayed by council action which had led to additional costs.
The application was first submitted in April 2019 but was refused in April 2021. It was tried again in February 2022 but was refused again in July 2023. An appeal was lodged in January 2024 and a public inquiry was held in April 2025. It was ultimately approved by a planning inspector from the Welsh Government and a partial award of costs was made against the council for the inconvenience and additional costs.
According to Nightfly's legal team, this is proof that the project is responsible and has benefits for the community. They said that with earlier cooperation, these benefits could have been delivered faster without additional costs from the town's funds.
