
The Philippine Consulate in New York continues to monitor the accident involving a tour bus on the I-90 highway, near Pembroke, New York. The DFA confirmed that Filipino passengers were among the victims of the incident on August 22, in which five people died and dozens were injured.
According to police, 54 passengers were on the bus, most of them from India, China, and the Philippines. The passengers ranged in age from 1 to 74 years old. Several passengers were thrown from the bus, but no children were killed.
Authorities explained that it is possible that the driver was distracted and lost control of the steering wheel. The accident was not caused by mechanical problems or alcohol. Authorities also said that many passengers were not wearing seatbelts.
Rescue teams, ambulances, and helicopters responded immediately to save the victims. Some were immediately treated and released from the hospital, while others remain under treatment.
