The Senate is not a toy, according to Senator Francis "Chiz" Escudero when he called out Senate Minority Leader Vicente "Tito" Sotto III for allegedly supporting the proposal to amend the Constitution being pushed by House Speaker Martin Romualdez and the House.
Escudero said in his post on X, it is easy to see that Sotto already supported the House's impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte even though the Supreme Court said it was unconstitutional. Now, he is also supporting this Cha-Cha plan.
When questioned, Sotto clarified that he is only willing to consider revising the Constitution if the Supreme Court completely dismisses Sara Duterte's case. He explained that the conditions of the decision are difficult to comply with so he may support the Constituent Assembly or Constitutional Convention to amend Article XI of the Constitution. He said, "I am not on any side but the Constitution."
Last year, the Senate and House also had a disagreement regarding the People's Initiative that could have removed the Senate.
