
San Fernando City, La Union continues to experience power outages following the devastation caused by Typhoon Emong. According to the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, only 20 percent of the total area had power as of Saturday, July 26.
To help residents, the local government has installed cellphone charging stations in various locations. These include three malls, a gasoline station, a cafe, a lounge, and the DICT Mobile Operations Vehicle for Emergency located at People's Park in front of city hall.
City Patroller Joanne Ponsoy shared photos and videos of residents who went to city hall to charge their cellphones. This move is a great help for affected families who are having difficulty communicating due to the lack of electricity.
Although the rain stopped on Sunday, July 27, several barangays are still flooded. As a result, the local government announced that classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12 in public and private schools will be suspended on Monday, July 28. As for colleges, the asynchronous method of learning will be implemented.
Operations are ongoing to restore electricity supply throughout the city as soon as possible.
