The two male friends, ages 21 and 22, were arrested after stealing a gun from a security guard in Barangay Balite, Rodriguez, Rizal. According to police, the security guard left his gun behind while he briefly went home to use the bathroom.
Based on CCTV footage, the suspects were seen secretly walking away from the gadget store. It was learned that they had been monitoring the area for a long time. Because the security guard did not have a permit to carry, he left his gun behind to avoid breaking the law.
With the help of the barangay councilor, the Rodriguez Police were able to identify one of the men. According to police, the two were known to each other due to previous complaints about theft in the area.
The friends were arrested in the same barangay and the missing gun was recovered from them. They admitted that they found it on the stairs and intended to sell it for P2,000. They apologized for their actions.
The suspects are currently in custody and facing a theft case. The police remind residents not to let such acts get away with so that they do not happen again and more victims will be affected.
