A dog named “Rat” was hit on the head by a man on the loose in Barangay 900, Sta. Ana, Manila, this Sunday afternoon. According to barangay officials, the man first got into an argument with his father and cousin, and when they turned around, even the dog was hit.
Barangay councilor Fernando Mercado said, “He was going on a rampage, first the father, then the cousin, and then the dog.” Chief ranger Jhun Katigbak added that a concerned citizen went to the barangay to report the incident. “Looking at the CCTV, we saw him beating the dog until it lost consciousness.”
The aspin named “Daga” is only eight months old. According to the owner, the suspect is his relative. “I saw how he hit my pet on the head. I couldn't move right away because I was so shocked,” said the owner. The dog is now in serious condition and can no longer stand properly.
The veterinarian suspected that the dog might have a fracture in its head. Therefore, the owner's family is determined to file a complaint. “Animals have rights. Violence has no place in our barangay,” Mercado stressed.
The suspect did not appear on camera, but his explanation was, “He was just confused.” However, he is scheduled to be subjected to inquest proceedings and will face charges for violating the Animal Welfare Act.
