The Philippine National Police (PNP) is ready for the opening of classes this year. According to PNP Chief Gen. Nicolas Torre, they are already coordinating with school heads to ensure the safety of students.
In Metro Manila, district directors and station commanders have been tasked with conducting inspections. Elsewhere, regional and provincial directors, as well as chiefs of police, have also been put on alert to provide security to schools.
Gen. Torre announced that the 911 hotline can be used to report bullying inside and outside of school. Under their 5-minute response time program, police will arrive immediately upon a call for help. “Dial 911, we will arrive within five minutes,” he said.
There is no need to go to the precinct. According to Torre, a call to 911 is enough if there is an incident of bullying. He added, bullying doesn't just happen in school, so it's important for authorities to have a quick response.
As of June 16, more than 37,000 police officers were deployed to 45,974 schools nationwide. thousands of volunteers also participated in the School Brigade to ensure that schools are ready for the opening of classes.
