A man was caught after stealing a cellphone from a gadget shop in Blumentritt, Sta. Cruz, Manila on Friday morning. CCTV footage shows the suspect running through the middle of a busy street after the incident.
According to the police investigation, the man pretended to buy a cellphone. While the staff was busy with another customer, he suddenly took the cellphone worth ₱5,500 and ran away.
The shopkeeper screamed after the robbery, so some bystanders chased after the suspect. Luckily, there were police patrolling the area so he was quickly caught.
The suspect explained that he had just quit his job as a pork vendor in Manila and was about to return to his hometown in Tarlac. Due to dire need, he was forced to steal.
Now, the suspect is in custody and will face robbery charges.
