Two fishermen in Claveria, Cagayan found 45.6 kilos of suspected shabu floating in the sea near Barangay Centro 6 on Sunday. According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), the fishermen immediately surrendered the illegal drugs to authorities.
The shabu was contained in 50 plastic packs of ‘gold tea bags’ labeled “DAGUAYIN” and with Chinese characters. According to PDEA, the street value of the seized drugs is estimated at P312.8 million.
Two days before this incident, 1 kilo of shabu was also found in Sitio Narvacan, Barangay Dilam, Calayan, Cagayan with a street value of P6.8 million. In the afternoon, another pack of shabu worth P5.1 million was surrendered by residents in Sitio Mingay, Barangay San Juan, Sta. Praxedes, Cagayan.
All the recovered drugs were brought to the PDEA Regional Office II Laboratory for analysis. Currently, investigations are underway to determine where they came from and who should receive them. According to PDEA, the shabu may have been intentionally dumped into the sea to avoid checkpoints or capture operations.
