The three mothers were caught after they allegedly stole the cellphones of two female government employees on Don Fabian Street, Brgy. Commonwealth, Quezon City this Monday morning. While the victims were waiting for a jeepney, the three suspects allegedly approached and quickly took their cellphones. A bystander saw the incident and immediately called for help from a nearby traffic sector.
According to the police, the three suspects are brothers aged 42 and 39, along with a friend who is also 39. They also have a record in the same case—one has been arrested six times, while the other two have been jailed three times for theft. They are said to have a group that is active in areas such as Quezon City, Caloocan, Manila, and San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.
The mothers admitted that they did this out of dire need. They said they would have used the proceeds from selling cellphones to buy school supplies for their children. They said they are not part of a gang, and according to them, it was the three of them's decision to come together to find a way.
Two cellphones worth ₱6,000 and ₱5,000 were seized from them. They are currently in the custody of the Batasan Police Station and will face a theft case while the search continues for one of their accomplices who escaped.
Despite their remorse, the case against them was not dropped. “It was just out of necessity, I really regret it,” said one of the suspects while crying.
