A 10-year-old boy died after his circumcision in Tondo, Manila. An investigation by the Manila Police District (MPD) revealed that the anesthesia administered to the boy was the possible cause of his death.
According to the autopsy results, there was a subarachnoid hemorrhage or bleeding in the brain of the victim. The MPD explained that this was related to the misuse of anesthesia during the circumcision.
A female witness came forward to authorities and said she saw the actual injection of anesthesia. It was also discovered that the person performing the circumcision was not a licensed doctor but a midwife who had previously performed circumcisions.
As of now, the suspect has not been caught, and he will face charges of Reckless Imprudence Resulting in Homicide, violation of the Medical Act of 1959, and Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009.
The investigation is ongoing while the midwife is being sought to be held accountable for the incident.
