The experience of Carissa Klundt, a 41-year-old from Las Vegas, served as a warning after she ended up in the ICU due to an accident during a chiropractic session. She saw a chiropractor after experiencing back pain following the removal of her breast implants.
At first, her sessions went well. But on the third time, a different practitioner took her in and included an adjustment to her neck. After the "crack," she immediately felt something was wrong. The neck pain began, and when she got home she felt like going to vomit.
A few weeks later, he experienced unusual visions and blackouts. Tests revealed that he had a vertebral artery dissection—a tear in an artery in his neck that could have a stroke. He was immediately taken to the ICU. “I almost died,” Klundt said.
For a month, he was bedridden, sleeping almost 17 hours a day and constantly in pain. According to him, he regrets going to the chiropractor but he would rather give a warning to others. “This is not about blaming others, but for everyone to be aware,” he said.
A former fitness enthusiast, he completely changed his lifestyle. “I can no longer ski, ride a rollercoaster, or teach fitness classes,” he added. Although he is recovering now, he still carries the fear of it happening again.
