A van accidentally entered the passenger loading area of NAIA Terminal 2 on Friday night. According to authorities, the incident occurred around 9:45 p.m. and no one was injured.
According to the Airport Police Department, the van entered between Bay 13 and Bay 14. The 56-year-old driver from Zamboanga is now under investigation.
Based on a statement from New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC), the driver said he swerved to avoid another vehicle. Airport security responded immediately and the van was immediately removed from the area.
The NNIC clarified that the area where the van entered does not have bollards because it is not a high-traffic zone. This is included in the audited portion of the bollard placements, and they are currently making security improvements.
According to MIAA General Manager Eric Ines, although no one was injured, he ordered a thorough investigation and coordination with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) for possible penalty against the driver.
