Authorities and fishermen worked together to recover 28 sacks of suspected shabu from the waters of Pangasinan on June 5 and 6, according to the Coast Guard District Northwestern Luzon.
The help of local fishermen was great, as they immediately reported to the authorities when they saw the suspicious floating sacks. Because of this, the quick action of the Coast Guard and the confiscation of the drug sacks were successful.
According to Capt. Mark Larsen Mariano, strict coastal surveillance and communication with residents continue to prevent possible drug trafficking at sea.
He also reminded that interfering with or handling suspicious packages may result in legal action, and that this should be immediately reported to the nearest Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) station.
At this time, investigations are still underway into where the shabu came from and who is expected to receive it.
