Grandmaster Daniel Quizon once again showed his brilliance in chess after he won the championship in the 1st Bino Car Rental Open Individual Rapid Chess Tournament held at the Pavilion Mall, Greenfield District, Mandaluyong.
In the 7-round Swiss system event, Quizon recorded 6.5 points—six wins and one draw against Lennon Hart Salgados in the final round. With his excellent performance, he took home the ₱7,000 top prize.
“I am happy with the win, especially since many untitled players from Metro Manila and neighboring provinces participated,” Quizon said on Monday.
This is his second championship this year, following his win in the 15th Kamatyas Rapid Chess Tournament at SM Southmall Las Piñas in March.
The tournament was organized by Einnar Marc Reyes and Woman Fide Master Cherry Ann Mejia, with the aim of further elevating the local chess scene in the country.
