The tragic accident occurred on Batasan-San Mateo Road, Quezon City this Wednesday night, where an 18-wheeler truck lost its brakes and plowed over five vehicles. In the incident, three people died while seven were injured. In the dashcam video, the truck can be seen speeding before it overturned and the container van fell onto the road.
According to police, among those hit by the truck were a car, an AUV, and three motorcycles. It also hit a light pole, causing heavy traffic in the area. One of the deceased was an unidentified man, while the other was a 38-year-old man waiting at the waiting shed. The third victim was a 49-year-old motorcycle rider who was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.
A motorcycle rider suffered injuries to his face, hand, and knee, while the car driver complained of chest pain after the collision. According to witnesses, the truck was going too fast and it seemed the brakes went off before the collision. The truck driver said that the brakes suddenly failed even though they were newly repaired. He came from Manila and was heading to Marikina to make a delivery.
The driver apologized and said he had no intention of causing this. He is now in the custody of the QCPD and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, and damage to property.
