The three men, including a former media personnel, were arrested in a buy-bust operation by the Southern Police District-Special Operations Unit on Kalayaan Street, Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City, Monday night.
According to police, an asset pretended to be a buyer of guns from the suspects. When the transaction turned out positive, they were immediately arrested. The barangay also responded after seeing suspicious activity.
For more than a month, the police have been monitoring the movements of suspects allegedly involved in gun sales in Metro Manila and neighboring provinces such as Cavite. The operation recovered three M16 rifles, two pistols, ammunition, magazines, and IDs.
Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo identified the three as residents of the village, but said they had no record in the village. One of the suspects denied any involvement in the seized grenade, saying “I have never seen or handled it.”
The investigation is still ongoing into where the guns were used and if there is a connection to other crimes. The suspects are facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
