The Department of Education (DepEd) will be recruiting 16,000 new teachers with the process set to be completed by the end of the third quarter of this year. This is part of the 20,000 new teaching positions allocated in the 2025 General Appropriations Act for the upcoming school year 2025-2026.
According to DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara, this is in response to President Marcos' order to prioritize teachers and students. The goal is to reduce class size and make teachers' work easier.
The DepEd has accelerated the recruitment and deployment of teachers, especially in kindergarten, elementary, and senior high school subjects. At the same time, the Department of Budget and Management has also added 10,000 new administrative positions to reduce teachers' non-teaching tasks.
