The winning senators in the 2025 midterm elections were officially proclaimed today Saturday, May 17. The Commission on Elections (Comelec) led the formal ceremony. Sen. Kiko Pangilinan was unable to attend as he was in the United States for his son's graduation, but the others received their proclamations in person.
Each senator was given the opportunity to deliver a short message, expressing gratitude and wishes for better service. According to Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia, the voter turnout of over 82% was the highest in the country's history. He also lauded the active participation of the youth, which was a major part of the elections.
Garcia said, young voters had a great influence on the election results. They showed the power to vote and choose the leaders they want to lead. Although some issues surfaced such as overvotes, the Comelec assured that the election was fair and clean.
According to the Comelec, although the election was not perfect, no major irregularities were reported. Finally, Chairman Garcia encouraged the new senators to push for reforms to improve the elections in the years to come.
