A 65-year-old man died after collapsing at Oas South Central Elementary School in Albay, Monday morning. He was identified as Nestor Rensales, a stroke survivor who had lined up early to vote.
According to Albay police, Rensales told his wife that he felt dizzy after voting. He waited for his wife while in line, but suddenly passed out near the voting area.
The story of Julia Rensales, the victim's wife, who insisted on voting even though the weather was hot. "I told him not to vote, but he said the vote was a waste," said Julia.
Because the voting was delayed, the old man became even more irritable. "We always arrive early, but the teachers who will serve are there first. He is getting hot and doesn't like waiting," he added.
Rensales was immediately taken to the Josefina Belmonte Duran Albay Provincial Hospital in Ligao City, but was declared dead-on-arrival of doctors.
