Motorcycles with boxer engines—those with a flat layout of cylinders—are usually associated with brands like Subaru, Porsche, and BMW. Subaru uses the boxer-four, while BMW has been known for the boxer-twin since the 1920s. Even though the boxer era of the Volkswagen Beetle is over, Porsche still uses it in their sports cars.
Now, it looks like Benda wants to join the scene too. Benda, a Chinese motorcycle brand known for its unique designs, is apparently working on a new entry-level roadster with a boxer-twin engine.
A leaked patent from China has revealed Benda's new project: a model called the BD250-3B. In the pictures, it looks like it's powered by a 250cc boxer-twin engine that's liquid-cooled, and could potentially have plenty of power despite its small displacement.
The design also features Benda signature fork covers, disc brakes, dual-channel ABS, LED lights, bar-end mirrors, digital panel, and alloy wheels. Unlike BMW which is shaft-driven, Benda uses a chain drive here.
If true, this is a good move for Benda to capture the attention of riders who want a unique experience, but are within budget. This is perfect for new riders in the Philippines who are looking for a different level from the entry-level.
