Two people were injured after hearing gunshots near the polling center in Bangued, Abra this Monday. According to police, the incident occurred around 7 a.m. at Sagap Elementary School, where voting was temporarily halted.
According to PLt.Col. Daniel Pel-ey of the Abra police, there was chaos in the area so the police had to calm the situation. Later, gunshots were heard near the river, on the way to the school. Several residents saw two vehicles hurrying towards Bangued proper.
Seares Memorial Hospital confirmed that two patients were admitted with gunshot wounds, but they are in stable condition. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Voting also resumed at Sagap Elementary School before noon. But some voters went home in fear. According to Nieves Berami, the gunshots were so loud that she quickly went with her husband while people were running.
M/Gen. Ronnie Francis Cariaga, acting Task Force Abra commander, appealed to not to spread false information or fake news to avoid further confusion and fear. Earlier, Dangdangla Elementary School, also a voting center in Bangued, was burned down a few days before the elections, but no election equipment was damaged.
