The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked the licenses of 98 bus drivers who tested positive for illegal drug use during Holy Week. This move is in accordance with the directive of Department of Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon.
According to LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza, not only have their licenses been revoked but they will also be subject to perpetual disqualification, which means they will not be able to obtain a new license. Mendoza said the decision is part of an effort to maintain the safety of motorists on the road.
Mendoza stated that driver’s licenses are not a right, but a privilege granted by the government on the condition of being a responsible driver. He also assured that their action against those violators of the law will continue.
Recently, the LTO also announced the revocation of the license of a bus driver who was involved in a car accident on the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) after refusing to take a drug test.
