5-Year-Old Boy Dies in NAIA Accident After Dropping His Father Off

The painful incident at NAIA Terminal 1 this Sunday morning completely changed the life of Mark Masongsong—a father who was left behind by his daughter after a shocking car crash.

A few minutes before the accident, Mark hugged his 5-year-old son tightly and said goodbye before entering the departure area to return to work abroad. But moments later, he received a call—and his world collapsed when he saw his son's body outside the airport.

According to Randy Balog, a relative of the family, Mark hasn't been with his son for a long time. It was only during this three-week vacation that he truly spent time with him. “They were just bonding, and then all of a sudden this happened,” said Balog.

Apart from the girl, two people died and three were injured. Among the injured were Mark's mother Editha (61 years old), his 7-year-old niece, and his wife Cynthia who is now in critical condition and has been transferred to St. Luke's Medical Center.

The SUV that hit them was driven by Leo Gonzales from Brgy. Tayuman, Lobo, Batangas, who had just returned from dropping off a passenger at the airport. According to the LTO, the driver's license was suspended and he was also required to submit to a drug test. Meanwhile, Mark postponed his flight to attend to his son's funeral and watch over his wife.
