The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced that it will offer 216,144 jobs, local and overseas, in job fairs on May 1. Of this number, 181,933 jobs are for local employment while 34,211 are for abroad.

The most job openings are in the National Capital Region with over 63,000 job openings. This is followed by Central Luzon with around 32,000 and Calabarzon with over 18,000 available jobs. Industries such as manufacturing, retail, BPO, food service, and financial services are hiring.

Top job positions are for production operators, sales clerks, call center reps, service crew, and microfinance officers. According to Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma, the nationwide job fairs are one of the highlights of DOLE's Labor Day celebration this year.

Aside from job fairs, many public school teachers have submitted a petition to President Marcos requesting a salary increase. According to the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT), they want the entry-level salary of teachers to P50,000 and P33,000 for education support staff due to the rising cost of living.

ACT said that the salary increase is important to empower teachers and strengthen the education system in the country. They expect positive action from the President for the welfare of teachers and the entire education sector.
