On the night of April 24, a Chinese man was forcibly taken away by men wearing camouflage and carrying long guns on the streets of Pasig. The incident was captured and quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread fear and suspicion that this was a kidnapping case.
According to the NCRPO (National Capital Region Police Office), the operation was conducted by the Bureau of Immigration and military intelligence unit (ISAFP) against a foreigner suspected of violating immigration law. This was accompanied by a task order as the legal basis for their action.
However, the police admitted that there were errors in the conduct of the operation. These included lack of coordination with the local police, excessive use of force, and insufficient reason for firing the gun.
Police statement: "Wrong actions will not be tolerated. Everyone is equal before the law." The Eastern Police District is continuing its investigation with Immigration and ISAFP. If there is sufficient evidence, those involved may be charged.
Authorities assured that they will review the policies of the operation to ensure that the next steps will be safe, legal, and transparent to the public.
